Impressions:
It's always a little bittersweet reaching the end of a LOST season. Feelings of anticipation and excitement tempered by the dread of an impending hiatus. Last year's snake-in-the-mailbox ending only made the wait that much harder. This year's finale may have not had the cliffhanger ending we're used to seeing, but I thought overall it was an excellent episode...easily in my top three of the season. The writer's weren't kidding about how difficult it would have been to try to shave an hour off this three-part epic. Nary a moment went to waste in what ended up being an emotional, action-packed ride. Indeed, most Hollywood movies fail to provide the entertainment value that we enjoy weekly as LOST fans. There are too many highlights to mention here, but we've collected a few for you to vote on for your favorite scene.

But first, here's our favorite easter egg from the episode--Kate's mysterious phone call.
Wondering what the dude on the phone said to Kate?
"The island needs you. You have to go back before it's too late."
Only it's in reverse. Check out the audio:Easter Eggs:

Did anyone notice the bizarre commercial towards the end of the episode for Octagon Global Recruiting? This was a Lost related ad. We believe it's promoting the Lost panel that will take place at Comic-Con in San Diego from July 24-27, which were conveniently the same location and dates mentioned in the ad. Here's a shot from the web site:

Screencaps Galore (with commentary):
Jack and Hugo reunite in what appeared to be an uncomfortable reunion for the two. It's the first time they've spoken since Hurley bailed on Jack to join Team Locke in New Otherton. This would be the first in a series of emotional encounters in store for the episode.
The episode started out heavy on action, with Richard and his band of Others ambushing Keamy's crew at the helicopter.
While I'm sure pretty much everyone sniffed out Kate's plan as soon as she came running out of the jungle, it apparently was clever enough to fool Keamy and his goons.
In one of the funniest scenes of the episode, Omar is the unfortunate recipient of a soccer style grenade pass from Keamy.
And BOOM goes the dynamite! (or grenade in this case)
The Sayid vs M.C. Keamy brawl was a fitting clincher to this action sequence. Two of the biggest badasses ever to grace the television screen going head to head. I like to think that Sayid would have escaped Keamy's choke hold had Richard not intervened.
A geriatric Walt pops in on Hurley at Santa Rosa. Good to see Walt again, even if just for one scene. I have a feeling Walt will begin taking on a much larger role next season. His character was much too significant during the first couple seasons to keep pushing his story to the backburner. Now that the awkwardness of the age gap between Walt the character and Malcolm the actor is no longer an issue, I'm hoping he'll return as a regular.
In a scene which brought back memories of the Man of Science vs Man of Faith debates from earlier seasons, Jack is told by Locke that he needs to lie about everything that has happened since the crash. I really enjoyed this scene (or series of scenes). After Jack states that "There's no such thing as miracles," Locke comes back with "Well, we'll just have to see which one of us is right." If history is any indication, I'd put my money on Locke.
Locke also makes the prophetic statement "if you leave this place, that knowledge is going to eat you alive from the inside out...until you decide to come back." Maybe someday Jack will start listening to John.
Miles plays some mind games with Charlotte. What do you mean "get back here"?
Our first glimpse of the inside of the Orchid station. We also get a "very informative video" in which we find out basically what we already knew.
"This is the vault , constructed adjacent to a pocket of what we believe to be negatively charged exotic matter."
Locke's reaction to Ben's blatant disregard for the video's warning is priceless.
At first I thought this was the Betamax player I passed on at a garage sale last week, but it appeared to be old school VHS instead.
A nice shot of the island as our Losties depart. Too bad it moved, because Lapidus could've probably run a competitive helicopter tour business with all the shuffling about he's done. Oh well, apparently there's always Kenny Rogers impersonations.
I'm sure there were a fair amount of people who were glad to finally see Keamy get his just desserts at the hands of an enraged Ben. Normally I'd scold Ben for his cold "So" response to enabling the Dead Man's trigger, but it was hard to blame him after Keamy's reference to when Alex "bled out". You don't mess with a father's daughter.
Dan and Red's semi-mysterious crush will have to wait until next season, as Red has no intentions of leaving after Miles' comments convinced her otherwise.
Juliet truly appears to be the good citizen now as she insists on helping everyone off the island before she'll leave. Is there another surprise up her sleeve or is she truly reformed?
Sawyer gives Kate a "spectacular kiss", only after letting her in on a secret (I think he says, "I've got a daughter out there. If you find her, tell her I'm sorry."), presumably regarding his daughter Clementine. Kate later acted on Sawyer's request, which got her in trouble with a spiraling Jack in "Something Nice Back Home".
Sawyer heroically sacrifices rescue by plunging into the Ocean to lighten the load in the chopper (only after the camera makes an awkward fat guy reference by fixating momentarily on Hurley).
In the world's worst surprise, it was pretty comical watching this goon get plugged at the hands of our resident assassin, Sayid.
Sayid easily coerces Hurley to leave for "somewhere safe" (is there such a place?). Hurley can't resist one last move to give him a checkmate in a battle against...Mr. Eko.
I'm not sure why the guys went to all the trouble of drawing this elaborate diagram of the bomb when they had no idea how to defuse it. Maybe the writers just knew it would end up as an Easter egg ![]()
Christian Shephard informs Michael that the island is done with him, which allows him to die, unfortunately at the expense of everyone else still stuck on the freighter, including Jin. A couple of additional comments: Once again, we see Christian speaking on behalf of someone or something else (the island and/or Jacob). Also, I know a lot of people are holding out hope that Jin is still alive, and usually with this show I have no problem suspending disbelief, but I can't see any way that Jin is still alive.
The dramatic explosion of the freighter was done well by the special effects gurus, who continue to produce movie grade results for a TV show (in fairness, there were a few cheesy looking effects in the life raft later).
In what is proving to be a great new mystery for next season, Sun meets with Widmore and offers a "quid pro quo" partnership. Is she truly intending partnership with Widmore or is she setting him up? Vote below and let us know what you think:
The potpourri of metal items Ben jammed into the vault garners the desired effect.
A gratuitous shirtless shot of Sawyer for the ladies. Was it me or did there appear to be some chemistry between Sawyer and Juliet? Would that make Sawyet or Julyer? Neither seems to have a great ring to it.
How is there still rum left on the island after over 3 months?
The cause for Juliet's drinking binge becomes known as we see the aftermath of the freighter explosion. Sawyer's flirtatious mood was quickly sobered as well.
Locke is welcomed "home" by Alpert and the Others.
Ben turns the Frozen Donkey Wheel, triggering another "purple sky event" and the moving of the island.
Locke and the Others react to the purple sky event.
The Oceanic 6 also experience the purple sky event.
The island just prior to being moved.
The island just after being moved. To use a phrase from the classic "Shawshank Redemption", the island "up and vanished like a fart in the wind."
Claire appears to Kate in a dream telling Kate that she better not dare take Aaron back to the island, which is counter to the phone message she received just prior in the same dream. I thought we might get more of a response by Claire after Kate referred to Aaron as her son.
Henrik appears after a two-season hiatus as we last saw him in the ice cold listening station playing chess.
Penny's crew used the coordinates of Desmond's freighter call to find the location where the freighter formerly was anchored. Once I saw Desmond hear Henrik say "Miss Widmore", I'll admit that my heart starting racing a bit faster. Penny and Desmond running to each other and finally reuniting was worth every second we waited. What a moment. I even endured being teased by daughter for crying.
A week's time gave the Oceanic 6 an opportunity to concoct their fabricated story and travel 3,000 miles to Sumba.
I loved Jack's return of the "I'll see you in another life, brotha" remark to Des.
Des is just happy to be with Penny. Little does he know, their hapiness, or at least peace, may be short lived as Ben has promised to hunt down and kill Penny. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
The Oceanic 6 arrives in Sumba. Where's that digital camera?
In a conversation that begs several more viewings, Ben surprises Jack at the funeral parlor, and claims that everyone must go back to the island, including...
...the late Jeremy Bentham, who is none other than John Locke.![]()

Can't bear the thought of waiting 8 months for more LOST? Neither can we. So to get our minds off of it, we are starting a fansite called "Fringe Fanatics" for the new JJ Abrams show Fringe, which starts August 26th on Fox. Check out the site here. Looks to be another hit for JJ. Right now there isn't much on the site, but be sure to bookmark it and check back frequently. We will have more time to spend on it now that LOST's season is wrapping up.

I don't think I can stand to wait until January to see where the island (and SAWYER!!!) went, and how Locke ended up in that coffin. Loved Hurley playing chess with Eko. And Claire??? Why would she appear to Kate and tell her NOT to bring Aaron (presumably) back? I'm so LOST!!! FAVORITE EPISODE EVER!
Reply to this
The man in the coffin is actually the G-Man from Half-Life.
Reply to this
it's totally Christian Shepherd that called her just like he appeared to micheal and he's connected to everything

Is is just me or there are two Lockes in the scene where Locke became the other´s leader???? look at the photo where they all are staring up at him, who´s the bloke next to richard???????
Reply to this
They are not looking up at Locke! Those are two different moments of the episode and Locke is already with them so of course that´s him!
Reply to this
Indeed, didn't see your post the first time..
Reply to this
They are not looking at him, but at that sound and light which moves the island..

Interesting tidbit... apparently in the Orchid station, the Dharma folks only played-back videos. The u-matic machine that Lock used was a playback-only version.
(probably just a minor prop issue)

I was hoping for a screenshot of right before and right after the island disappeared. I heard a rumor that the four-toed statue was visible at some point. Speaking of which...when is that ever going to come back into play?!
Reply to this
No there wasn't any statue footage when the island vanished (who ever told you that was telling you lies mate)

My big question is what happened to the peeps in the powerboat, like scientist dude? Were they on the island still or were they in transit and now LOST at sea? Anyone know?
Reply to this
I also really would like to know this answer!

Is Jeremy Bentham an Anagram for something? Just like the 'Flash Forward' anagram on the funeral palour where 'John Locke' a.k.a Jeremy Bentham was being kept?
Anyone figured anything out?
LOST in NZ
Kia Kaha (be strong)Lost season 5 will be well worth the wait.

Jeremy Bentham probably refers to philosopher Jeremy Bentham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Bentham), similar to other philosophers referenced like John Locke, Desmond Hume, and Rousseau.

Kate, I think I left my glasses in your bag. You couldn't post them for me? Thanks hon'.
Reply to this
Sorry Sawyer, I looked but couldn't find them. Are you sure you didn't leave them in your tent?
Reply to this
You were right, thanks Kate. I also found a pair of you panties...but you don't mind if I hold onto them until you get back do you?
Oh, by the way. Did you return the library books that I asked you about when we were on the helicopter? I know it's a pain.
Reply to this
Yes I dropped them off yesterday, but you owe me the overdue charge. See you in about 10 months. Take care, and don't forget to brush your teeth.
Best wished...Kate.

I heard that when the purple sky happens and the island moves the 4 toed statue shows up. Is this true? If so does anyone have a screencap of it?
Reply to this
So call me whatever names you may, but I for one was VERY disappointed that the secret code name for the game-changing moment of the finally (A.K.A. "The Frozen Donkey Wheel") really was a frozen donkey wheel. I mean, come on...... That was the only disappointment I had with the finally. It made little, if no sense to me that the island was moved by Ben turning that wheel.

Why didn't the guys just pull the blasting caps out of the bricks of C4 on the ship? This wouldn't have broken any circuit to set the bomb off. Then they could have just chucked the bricks out the porthole, one at a time. It would have been no more dangerous than freezing the battery with liquid nitrogen. Duh.

will there be a podcast for the finale?
Reply to this
Yes, our podcast covering the finale will be coming out soon. We've had a couple of personal commitments that have delayed things. Please hang in there, it won't be much longer. Thanks for the patience and the support.

thanks! glad to hear everything is ok. can't wait to hear your takes

Of course Locke is dead...remember this is the 3 years after they have returned...we will now, through flashbacks, watch how that came about next season, no?

Am I the only one who thinks it's Kate's voice who says "don't you dare bring him back!" and not Claire's during the dream? I've listened to that scene 10 times and I swear it's Evangeline Lily's voice dubbed over Emilie De Ravin's lip-syncing.
Reply to this
Ya, when I heard that I thought "strange, no Aussie accent on Claire"!
Reply to this
I've kinda been liking the idea of Juliet and Sawyer since season 3.
